Personal profile:

I am a BSC honours graduate with a passion for computing and electronics. I strive to exceed expectations with any task I do and try to find new more innovative ways to solve a problem. I have good time management skills which were put to the test as I completed my 4th year of university while I was employed part time and required careful planning of study periods between my classes and shifts in work. I am computer literate and enjoy spending my free time working on various electronic and programming projects. This includes building and modifying desktop computers, website design and small scale electronics such as a solar mobile phone charger. I am able to learn to use most computer systems with minimal training and I am competent in most common word processing and spreadsheet programs. I have grown up working on mechanical and electronic objects such as building and racing radio control cars which required maintenance after each race event.

Transferable skills:

  • Computer literate
  • Proficient time management and planning
  • Desire to learn new knowledge
  • Problem solving with innovative solutions
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Willing to work as a team and take the lead if necessary
  • Accomplished customer service
  • Flexible to changes in my role

Education:

Glasgow Caledonian University

BSC Hons in Mechatronics 2nd class:
This degree includes elements from both mechanical and electronic engineering to allow an integration of these systems to create control structures. I have learned control engineering techniques such as Bode diagrams and PID controller units. I also learned circuit design and manufacture techniques which I put into practice on many projects including my final year project to build a motorised robotic platform.

I have experience working with various types of microcontroller. I have used microcontrollers to simulate systems such as washing machine controllers and car engine management systems. My final year project was based around an Arduino microcontroller to create a motor control system for a small robotic platform with the option of expansion to perform automated tasks. I have also used various Freescale microcontrollers and Freescale’s integrated development environment, Codewarrior.

I have knowledge of programming in C, visual basic, HTML/XHTML and PHP languages. I am also competent in using programs such as MathWorks MATLAB, Pro Engineer, Adobe Photoshop and Dreamweaver along with several CAD drawing packages. This experience allows me to rapidly learn a new software system I experience which generally helps me be more productive and find innovative solutions.

Duncanrig Secondary School

Other qualifications

  • SVQ in retail skills
  • Level 3 food safety training

Work experience:

W.M. Morrisons – Fresh food counter assistant

2006-present
I was responsible for ensuring correct stock rotation which required a high level of communication with staff members to achieve. This also helped with customer interaction to provide a polite and friendly atmosphere, which was also helped by learning about the products we offered to help give an informed answer to any questions. I was responsible for stock ordering when my supervisor was unavailable or on holiday, this required a good knowledge of trading levels to ensure the correct level was available at the correct time.

I strived to learn more and was able to achieve my retail skills SVQ while I was working along with learning the basics of most departments within the store. I feel this gives me a more flexible job role being able to filling where I am needed most. I also expanded my time management skills learning to have time the production of fresh products around staff breaks and to meet trade levels.
